Multipurpose Artificial Turf Field Coming to Wooster School in Fall 2021
Posted 06/28/2021 01:23PM

Wooster School is excited to announce that it has received a significant leadership gift from Richard and Lori Fernandes to construct a multipurpose artificial turf athletic field on its campus. The field is to be called The Alice and Fernando Fernandes Field in honor of Rick's parents, whose support and commitment to the strongest possible education for Rick made all the difference in his life. Construction on the field is to begin in June with a tentative completion date of September 2021.

Rick Fernandes, a Danbury native and member of the Class of 1976, was a multi-sport athlete and Senior Prefect at Wooster School. After graduating, Rick went on to receive his BSE in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and MBA from Harvard University before embarking upon a successful career starting and leading companies in the online marketing sector. Always a strong supporter of Wooster School, Rick has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees, including as Board President from 1998 to 2008.

Through this gift of a new field The Fernandes' family hopes to further strengthen Wooster's commitment to providing high quality health, wellness, and athletic opportunities for all of its students. Having a field option that is not subject to weather conditions, and which provides a far more consistent playing surface, will be of great benefit to Wooster School's fitness and athletic programs. Wooster School is truly grateful for this generosity, and for Rick's longtime and profoundly important commitment to his alma mater.
